Honing my craft: Training and skills

Discover the rigorous training regimen and standout skills that define my game. Learn how I continuously refine my abilities to excel on the court and prepare for the next level.

My unique training for on-court excellence

As an underclassman, I focus on tailored strength and conditioning to handle the physicality of stronger defenders. Building lower body power is crucial for increased playing time and effective under-the-basket movements.

While I have a high motor, I continuously work on crossover mechanics and lateral speed to create more separation when driving to the hoop or closing out on defense. The transition to elite camps like the NBPA Top 100 requires faster processing of complex in-game scenarios. Mastering the "why" behind the play—reading the defense and spatial awareness—is what separates very good guards from great ones. I am already a strong mid-range threat; extending that consistency to the perimeter will make me nearly impossible to guard, as defenders will no longer be able to sag off.

Top basketball skills impressing coaches and scouts

College coaches are particularly drawn to my balance of high-speed playmaking and defensive grit. As an undersized but fearless guard, I possess several "translatable" skills that fit the modern collegiate game.

My elite speed and transition play are well-known; I push the ball at a fast pace and make effortless yet intentional plays. Coaches value guards who can create "downhill" pressure and force defenders into difficult decisions. Scouts describe me as a "crafty ball handler" with a high-level ability to change directions and speeds, allowing me to navigate tight defenses and create my own shot even against larger opponents. Despite my size, I embrace a defensive stopper mentality, taking it upon myself to guard the opposing team's best player. My lateral movement and willingness to initiate contact make me a disruptive "on-ball" defender. I am recognized as a shooter with three-level scoring potential.

My secret to continuous improvement

While I am already an elite playmaker, my current development plan includes further skill refinement for the next level. Three-point consistency is key; becoming a "knockdown" shooter from deep will force defenders to play closer, opening up my elite driving lanes. During the 2025–26 season at Clark Montessori, I carried a significant scoring load, averaging 11.4 PPG. Transitioning to college will require me to further master balancing personal scoring with facilitating for high-major teammates.

Though known for my high motor, elite point guards excel at "changing speeds" to keep defenders off-balance. Refining my mid-range pull-up game will make me a true three-level threat.

Why my training makes me a valuable college asset

My training is meticulously designed to bridge the gap between a high school standout and a valuable college-level floor general. My regimen prioritizes professionalism, versatility, and mental toughness, ensuring I am "college-ready" before stepping foot on campus.

My core training pillars include elite "game-speed" repetitions, focusing on training that reflects the chaotic nature of real games. My workouts include making at least 150 shots daily and spending significant time on mid-range jumpers and creative finishing around the rim—essential skills for a guard of my stature. For physical conditioning and strength to compete against larger collegiate players, my routine includes weightlifting three times weekly and high-intensity conditioning drills like "17s" (side-to-side sprints) to build elite stamina. I train with a "discipline over move, routine over hype" philosophy, which was evident during my 2025-26 season, fostering mental toughness and a "stay ready" mentality.
